I am delighted to confirm that my debut novel ‘The Pretender’ will be released on Wednesday 12th September 2018. It is a modern day adaptation of the ‘Prince and the Pauper’ which was one of my childhood favourites. However, I didn’t really like the ending. So I decided to modernise it for the Young Adult genre and give it a fantastic ending.
The reaction so far to my novel has been very positive with my 21-date blog tour being filled in only 5 days. My sample readers have come back with equally positive responses with one responding that it is ‘awesome, exciting, romantic and beautiful’.
The hardest part for any writer is being able to know if their work is resonating with an audience, we sit alone in a room typing words on to a page hoping that it will be but never really knowing. When I first started to write ‘The Pretender’ I decided to use one of the many fiction sites to try and gauge if people liked the story. The reaction was phenomenal with my story being read thousand of times by people in 64 countries around the world.
Suddenly I realised that I wasn’t the only one who believed in it, while I hadn’t been able to inspire an agent or publisher to believe in my work, I had thousands of people who did and they were the readers. I knew I had an audience who liked my work and so I decided to take a risk and publish myself. I contacted an author I heard on my local radio who had done the same and she gave me amazing help and advice and nearly three months later I’m one week away from receiving my completed book.
The picture above is a sneak peek of the cover illustration, produced by local artist Emma Haines who took the idea I had in my head and captured it beautifully on paper, giving a real essence of the book in only a picture.
For any of my readers who would like to purchase a copy of the book when it is released, save the date in your diary and visit my website on 12 September where you will be able to purchase either a printed or e-book version.
